D.G. Biddle and Associates Limited, an Engineering firm located in Oshawa, requires the support of a college graduate with an Office Administration Certificate.

As a receptionist, you will be our company’s first impression on visitors and guests. It is your foremost responsibility to greet all incoming guests and visitors and assist them with the appropriate information they require. You will be professionally answering telephone calls in a polite manner and redirecting calls to the respective departments. Also as the receptionist, you will perform various duties including providing administrative support to the engineering staff and accounting staff, word processing, report preparation, file management, collections, and other duties as assigned.


Job Description:

  • Answer incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of callers, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel and departments.
  • Greet visitors/guests professionally, determining nature and purpose of visit.
  • Collect, sort, distribute and prepare correspondence, messages and courier deliveries.
  • Assist engineering staff with word processing, file management, spreadsheets.
  • Assist accounting staff with collection calls and other assigned tasks.

Requirements:

  • Education: College Office Administration Certificate.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of related experience in an office environment would be preferred.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with high level of interpersonal skills.

MUNICIPAL SERVICES DESIGN TECHNOLOGIST

We currently have an immediate opening for a Municipal Services Design Technologist with a minimum of 5+ years of related experience in subdivision or municipal servicing projects. Applicants must have a Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist (CET) education and an ability to work independently. More specifically, the duties for this position include but are not limited to:


  • Undertake civil engineering design and review for a wide range of projects including land development, municipal infrastructure and water resources management.
  • Produce conceptual design, detailed design, related drawings and technical specifications for new road and road reconstruction projects, including related infrastructure.
  • Prepare municipal engineering designs, including storm and sanitary sewer design and hydraulics, hydraulic grade-line analysis, stormwater management, and lot grading.
  • Produce road design including horizontal and vertical profiles, and detailed grading and drainage designs.
  • Ensure technical work and design calculations are of a high company standard.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary design team in delivering positive client performance.

STRUCTURAL/ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

We currently have an immediate opening for an Architectural/Drafting Technologist. Applicants must have an Architectural/Civil Engineering diploma or degree and an ability to work in a fast pace environment. An ideal applicant will have a principle understanding of building design concepts and building systems, have solid technical abilities, be a skilled problem solver and strong communication skills. More specifically, the duties for this position but are not limited to:


  • Review & interpret both Architectural and structural drawings.
  • Prepare contract drawings, details, sketches from conceptual design through tender to construction drawings for residential, commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Site visits & measuring of existing structures.
  • Prepare site inspection reports.
  • Revise red lined drawings in Auto Cad and Revit.

  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code 2012 & construction practices.
  • Strong attention to detail (detail oriented).

INTERMEDIATE PLANNER

The Intermediate Planner position will provide the opportunity to participate in and manage multi-disciplinary projects in urban and regional planning, growth management, and land development. Business development, including proposal preparation and client development, as well as mentoring and directing staff on projects, will be key responsibilities in this position. We are looking for leaders who can advance their own career and the depth of professional planning services we provide. Understanding of the Planning Act, and evolving trends in provincial policy, growth management, urban design/built form, natural heritage preservation, and resource management are required.


Responsibilies and Duties

Planning and Urban Design

  • Perform advanced professional work related to a variety of planning assignments
  • Prepare planning documents such as Planning Justification Reports and both Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments
  • Manage complex municipal development applications
  • Review and process official plan amendments, rezoning, plans of subdivision and site plans
  • Act as a liaison between clients and approval authorities

Project Management

  • Develop project budgets, lead proposals and verify contract expenditures
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure completed work meets client expectations, jurisdiction standards and business unit standards
  • Communicate internally regarding project status
  • Lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of subconsultants to meet clients’ timelines

Business Development

  • Create and sustain a strong network in the business community
  • Identify potential markets and trends
  • Understand and provide solutions to your clients’ needs
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and other related business development activities

Supervision

  • Ensure smooth workflow by delegating work to people with the proper skills and abilities
  • Liaise with the team to ensure completed work meets or exceeds client expectations and department standards
  • Ensure that all work put out is of a high quality to company standards
  • Actively participate in a team environment; sharing your technical knowledge and learning from others

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in planning or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience, preferably in a consulting environment or in a project management role in a public setting.
  • Eligibility as a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners – MCIP, RPP designations.
  • Strong project management, report writing, and personal time management capabilities.
